Nepali students relieved as Oz watchdog revokes deregistration of AIBT-I

Kathmandu, June 5

Hundreds of Nepali students studying at Australian Institute of Business and Technology - International, whose registration was cancelled by the Australian Skill and Quality Authority, the regulatory body, on May 15, can now take a sigh a relief as the ASQA has revoked its decision to deregister AI- BT-I.

Following the decision of the ASQA, AIBT-I had filed a case at the Federal Court of Australia against the ASQA’s decision and hearing of the case was scheduled for today. The ASQA revoked its decision just before the hearing. Meanwhile, AIBT-I has also withdrawn the case filed against the regulatory body.

The ASQA had decided to cancel the college’s Vocational Education and Training registration and Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students registration.

The number of Nepali students studying at AIBT-I has not been made public officially. But, Nepali students studying at various colleges in Australia told THT that around 1,200 students studying in the college were Nepali.

The ASQA had, on February 19, revoked AIBT’s Vocational Education and Training registration and Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students registration.

The ASQA took the decision following the college’s failure to demonstrate that its marketing practices were accurate. It stated that AIBT could not demonstrate that it had qualified staff or it had implemented an assessment system to ensure that learners had the skills needed.

After the recent move of the ASQA, AIBT-I welcomed the decision, issuing a press release.
