New pay scale for journos on cards

Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai today said that the government has already initiated the process to implement new minimum wage for working journalists.
During his meeting with a delegation of Sacharika Samuha, an association of working women journalists, Minister Rai said the ministry had already begun the process for implementing new minimum wage for journalists and is awaiting parliamentary approval.
Similarly, work has begun to implement accident insurance policy for journalists.
On the occasion, the delegation submitted a memorandum to Minister Rai, seeking 33 per cent representation of women in media houses. In response, the minister said he was also of the view that there should be a noticeable participation of women in media.
Moreover, women’s presence was essential in the Press Council and the policy making level, he stressed.
Chairperson of Sancharika Samuha Nirmala Sharma called on the government to make efforts to increase women’s presence in the media.
