New statute to ensure RTI, assures PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala assured that the new constitution will enshrine the right to information.

Launching the six-month progress report of the National Information Commission at his residence in Baluwatar today, the Prime Minister said true information is vital in institutionalising democracy.

Right information helps authorities take rights decisions, Koirala added.

He was of the view that right information and news, opinions and analyses based on it help the state in implementing democratic norms, values and principles.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister claimed the new constitution would be democratic and added that it would also include voices and concerns of all political parties.

Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal and Commission Chairman Krishna Hari Baskota had also spoken at the function.
