Kathmandu, February 1:
The Supreme Court today said there is no need to direct the government to provide salaries to officials of the dissolved Himal Cement Corporation (HCC).
A division bench of Chief Justice Hari Prasad Sharma and justice Paramananda Jha passed the verdict quashing a writ petition filed by a group of 217 officials of the dissolved HCC, seeking the Supreme Court’s order to the government to provide their salaries.
“Since the Company Act has guaranteed salaries for employees of any corporation, there is no need to direct the government,” the bench ruled. It also said that the officials have the right to claim their salaries under the general legal process.
The bench said several government authorities have told the apex court that work is on to provide the salaries.
Earlier, the apex court had directed the government and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to provide the salaries some four years ago.
