'No one can stop new constitution'

KATHMANDU, July 7

Top leaders of major political parties expressed confidence today that no one can stop the new constitution from being promulgated.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli, Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Democratic) Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar and former prime ministers – Sher Bahadur Deuba and Jhalanath Khanal — while addressing the CA meeting said the new constitution would be democratic and dynamic. The PM urged Madhes-based parties to actively participate in the ongoing process of the CA, as a federal, democratic, republic constitution was about to be promulgated.

UML leader Oli said the decades’ long wish of delivering new constitution through people’s representatives is about to be fulfilled. “It will be the document of maximum consensus among parties and will foster democratic system,” Oli said.

UCPN-M leader Dahal said, “I feel pride as we are about to deliver new constitution — a measure of success of past movements, revolutions and sacrifice,” he said. “With feedback from public, the first draft will get people’s ownership,” he said.

MJF-D Gachhadar said the devastating earthquake of April 25 helped to bring the leaders together and expedite the promulgation of constitution.

NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba proposed to continue the CA even after delivering the new constitution until the boundaries of the federal units were demarcated.

UML leader Jhalanath Khanal said the new constitution would be the document of consensus and transform the country towards prosperity.
