NSU faction enraged at deferral of CC meet

Kathmandu, May 15:

A gathering of the disgruntled faction of the Nepal Students’ Union today condemned the postponement of a central committee meeting of the union scheduled for tomorrow.

The participants in the gathering chaired by joint general secretary Chhiring Dorje Lama held at Tri-Chandra College claimed that the union would face a crisis if the current leadership remained in place for long.

He called for a fresh national convention at the earliest to make the union the largest students’ union of the country.

Former central committee member Bharat Kumar Shahi said a date for fresh national convention would be announced by disgruntled faction through a meeting chaired by the union’s vice-president if the president failed to call the union’s central committee meeting within a week.

Former vice-president Ram Krishna Chitrakar, current vice-president Guru Baral, former central committee member Damodar Bhusal and NSU leaders Dipendra Acharya, Shiva Yadav and Indra Kamal Budhathoki among others attended today’s meeting.

However, NSU president Pradip Poudel said the central committee meeting of the NSU would be called within a few days after the NC decision, if any, on its sister organisations.

Union’s vice-president Bhupendra Jung Shahi, who is also in favour of a fresh national convention, however said the establishment and disgruntled factions should first sort out the existing problems before going for a national convention.

Another source claimed that the NC leadership has already taken initiative to sort out the differences within the union and that the dispute would be over within a few days.
