Speaker Gharti concludes China tour, returns home

KATHMANDU: Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar on Saturday returned home after concluding her weeklong tour to China.

Gharti on September 18 had left for Gansu, the northwestern province of the People’s Republic of China, to participate in the Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Culture Expo (SRICE).

In China, the Speaker had a meeting with the Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong, in which they discussed bilateral relationships including the Chinese President Xi Jinping's purported Nepal visit, according to a statement issued by the Speaker's Secretariat.

The Speaker had also visited Yunnan, the southwestern province of China, on September 22 and 23 following the conclusion of expo.

In Yunnan, the legislative chief had a meeting with the Yunnan Province Governor Chen Hao. She had also urged Chinese investors and traders to invest in Nepal.

Former Finance Minister of Nepal and the Speaker’s spouse Barshaman Pun and Secretary General of the Parliament Secretariat Manohar Prasad Bhattarai among others were members of the eight-person Nepali delegation led by the Speaker.
