BIRATNAGAR: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for foreign affairs Sujata Koirala today said opposition parties were not letting the government perform properly.

“I as a member of the government have not been able to execute my duties significantly because of the opposition parties’ highhandedness. Nor has the prime minister been able to deliver,” said Koirala while addressing the inaugural function of Nagarstariya Credit and Cooperative Limited here.

The deputy prime minister alleged that the opposition parties were protesting for the sake of protesting. “They even refuse to appreciate the government’s good deeds,” she said.

Koirala was of the view that the Unified CPN-Maoist was one of the major stakeholders in the peace process. “If they assist the government in statute drafting, no force can stop us from promulgating it within the stipulated time. About 75 per cent of work has already been completed,” she said.

Urging all the stakeholders to work in unison to materialise the dream of late Girija Prasad Koirala and usher in lasting peace, she said the UCPN-Maoist must mend its way and actively participate in taking the peace process to a logical conclusion. “The Maoists should extend their support to help the High Level Political Mechanism function.”
