Panel formed to punish corrupt police officials

Deputy Inspector General of Police Krishna Basnet today said he has formed a monitoring committee to identify corrupt police personnel and take action against them. Speaking at a press meet organised at the Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, the DIG said: “Following complaints that police personnel have been involved in criminal cases and that they don’t investigate such cases for the sake of money, I have formed a monitoring committee under the coordination of the Superintendent of Police to look into such cases.” “I will take action against corrupt police personnel,” he said, asking mediapersons to cooperate with him in identifying the corrupt. Talking of his plans to make the valley a crime-free area, he said, “I will use in optimum the concept of community police and generate awareness among the people to check crime in the valley.” When asked about the deployment of police in plainclothes, he said the police can deploy its staff in any way to achieve success. “Police personnel are deployed in plainclothes to identify people easily and prevent damage to property and injuries while making arrests,” Basnet said.
