Passengers of microbus beaten up, robbed

Kathmandu, December 19:

An unidentified gang beat up and looted passengers of a microbus, including principal of the Banasthali-based Shahid Ramnath Multiple College Ram Prasad Poudel, in Basundhara yesterday, a victim said. Police, however, have no information on the incident.

According to the victim, six persons, who got into the microbus from two places, called on the driver to put off the light and started beating up all the passengers.

“Then they urged the passengers to hand over money and valuables. The vehicle was running till then,” Poudel told this daily.

As all passengers and microbus staffers were injured, they rushed to hospitals and forgot to inform police.

Poudel does not know where other passengers were admitted. “I went to the Tilganga Eye Hospital as my eye was bleeding. I received five stitches around the right eye,” he said.

They punched me three times just because I didn’t resist, he said. “Others were severely beaten. The conductor was in a critical condition,” he said. They took away my purse, which contained Rs 5,100, and documents.

There were six looters, Poudel said, adding that two of them got into the microbus from Sukedhara, while others boarded it from Chabahil. Poudel said he does not remember the registration number of the microbus.

DSP at the Metropolitan Police Circle Maharajgunj Bikash Khanal said police had no information on the incident. “I will inquire with the principal to check whether the said incident took place,” he said.
