Pedestrians suffer

Madhyapur Thimi, October 1:

Pedestrians using the Jadibuti chowk-Lokanthali section of Araniko Highway have been facing difficulties because of the works being executed by the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) to relocate drinking water pipes to facilitate the extension of the Koteshwor-Suryabinayak section of the highway.

But the gutters created for the relocation of pipes have left virtually no space for pedestrians.

The gutters have completely damaged the footpath at one side of the road, making it unsafe for pedestrians.

Sunil Poudel, senior divisional engineer at the Department of Roads (DoR), said a team from DoR had gone to the site for the maintenance of road only to be returned by the KUKL officials.

“They returned our team saying that they were yet to check leakage in the pipes,” Poudel said, adding that the DoR had sanctioned necessary budget for the government agencies

concerned to relocate drinking water pipes, telecommunication and electric cables.

Poudel said that the KUKL officials had assured them to repair the footpath after repairing the water pipes.
