PM directs varsities to focus on research
Kathmandu, August 26
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has underscored the need to develop universities as academic centres of excellence.
Addressing the eighth general meeting of Midwestern University organised at his official residence in Baluwatar today, the PM said, “University officials and professors should focus on research and study as university is not only a place where teaching and learning activities are conducted. It is necessary for universities to carry out research on issues that may be useful for the country.”
He also said that the country would head nowhere without planned development. PM Oli informed that the government was preparing to formulate and adopt a new education policy for human resource management consistent with its vision of prosperous Nepal. “A study is under way to maintain balance between the demand and supply of human resources in every sector to support the national campaign of development and prosperity,” he said.
A team of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the National Planning Commission is currently busy conducting the study. Upon the receipt of its report, it will be clear as to which sector needs how many and what types of human resources, PM Oli said.
