PM meets security chiefs

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Tuesday held a meeting with Home Minister Bamdev Gautam and chiefs of four security bodies — the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department — and urged them to maintain high level of alertness and tighten security to prevent any untoward incident as the Constituent Assembly enters the final stage of delivering the new constitution.

“The meeting assessed the security situation in the aftermath of violent incidents in Surkhet and other parts of far-west and mid-west. The PM urged the authorities to maintain restraint while dealing with the protests, demonstrations and any kind of possible offensive and criminal activities,” said sources close to the PM’s personal secretariat. “It was a regular security briefing with the PM,” said Surya Prasad Silwal, Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs.
