PM mulling apology from Begam
KATHMANDU: With the pressure mounting from the civil servants, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is reportedly considering seeking a public apology from Karima Begam, the State Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, for slapping CDO Durga Prasad Bhandari.
It is said that there have been talks between the Prime Minister and MJF(L) chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar to this effect, rather than take action against the minister.
A few days back, minister Begam had assaulted the Chief District Officer of Parsa district, Durga Prasad Bhandari, for having allegedly sent an old vehicle to pick up the visiting Minister from the airport.
After the incident, the government employees have been protesting the Minister’s act, seeking stern action against her.
The agitating government employees have warned the government that the latter’s failure to take action against the ‘errant’ Minister would demoralise the whole beauracracy.
