PM Oli’s statement condemned
Kathmandu, July 23
Senior advocate Surendra Bhandari a member of the talks team representing Dr Govinda KC objected to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s statement regarding Dr KC’s hunger strike, and said it had undermined his dignity.
Speaking with THT over telephone, Bhandari said that the government was showing no seriousness about holding talks with the agitating doctor, but was trying to avoid dialogue by giving various ludicrous statements.
According to Bhandari, they had received a letter from the government’s talks team yesterday night at 10:00pm, requesting them to sit for a dialogue. But to their surprise, nobody made any call regarding any discussion.
“A representative of PM Oli, however, came to visit us at noon. He repeated the same old demand to appear for talks without condition, which was not acceptable to us,” Bhandari added.
Bhandari also said that they are ready to settle disputes through amendment of the medical education bill in the Parliament.
Similarly, advocate Om Prakash Aryal said the government talks team was only focusing on ending Dr KC’s hunger strike and treating him as if he was a patient suffering from some kind of disease. “If the government wants Dr KC to end his hunger strike the government better take serious initiative to hold talks.”
