PM vows to expedite post-earthquake reconstruction

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said the government was committed to accelerating the post-earthquake reconstruction efforts which were already formally launched.

Receiving funds for the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar today, PM Oli said, "The government has intensified the reconstruction of earthquake-damaged structures with the formation of the National Reconstruction Authority and it is committed to further expediting this."

It may be noted that the PM's commitments came when the reconstruction campaign is yet to reach the people's level though nine months have already elapsed since the powerful earthquake clobbered the country, causing massive losses of lives (around 9,000) and property.

On the occasion, he pledged to implement the campaign in all the disaster-affected districts in a systematic and transparent way and to fully utlise the fund.

A religious organisation Radha Madhav Samiti, Shyama Shyama Dham, Bhaktapur had donated Rs 2.1 million to the Fund.

Samiti Chair Gopal Prasad Sapkota handed over the cheque to the Prime Minister who praised the organisation for its noble efforts in spreading the message of peace, humanity, goodwill and harmony in the society.
