Police bust fake engineering degree racket, nab 5

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Police Crime Division busted a racket involved in producing fake certificates of various engineering degrees and arrested five persons from various locations of Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Complaints were lodged with police regarding some fake engineers who were registered at the Nepal Engineering Council being employed in various organisations with fake degrees.

After a tip-off, the MPCD had formed a special team to scrutinise details about such activities. During the investigation, they had carried out a raid at a computer designing office at Gabahal in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City-18 on Tuesday.

Police also seized computers, hard disks, fake engineering degrees, seals and stamps from the site.

The MPCD identified the arrestees as Ankit Khadka (29) of Gabahal, Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City-18, working as computer designer; Subit Khadka (44) of Nakhipot, Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City-14; Hitesh Singh (28) of Dipyal Silgadhi Municipality-3 of Doti; Pujan Kumar Khatri (26) of Baksila VDC-8 in Khotang district and Sanat Shrestha (26) of Budanilakhantha-3 of Kathmandu.

The suspects have been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur for investigation, the MPCD statement said.
