Police personnel held for robbery

KATHMANDU: Police on Monday night arrested two policemen for allegedly robbing a person of gold.

According to officials, head constable Bishwaraj Kushwaha and constable Bishnu Bahadur Thapa had snatched two gold bangles from the victim, alleging that the ornaments were smuggled from abroad. Police arrested the cops after being informed about their involvement in the robbery. However, police have yet to recover the gold ornaments from Kushwaha and Thapa. The victim is also said to be out contact with police.

A CCTV footage received by police also shows head constable Kushwaha and constable Thapa snatching the ornaments. Kushwaha and Thapa were members of Quick Response Team deployed from Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala, for maintaining law and order in the areas falling under its domain.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Police Circle has arrested four Nepali migrant workers from Tribhuvan International Airport with 541 gram gold smuggled from Qatar. — HNS
