Police raid DoFE, TIA over migration frauds

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Monday raided the Kathmandu Office of Department of Foreign Employment and the Tribhuvan International Airport to investigate into cases of migration frauds.

The MPCD team detained two women who were all set to leave the Airport for a foreign destination for employment, suspecting genuineness of their documents.

The MPCD Chief SSP Sarvendra Khanal told THT Online that four travel agencies were also raided to look into their suspicious activities.

The Rastriya Samachar Samiti has also quoted Khanal as saying that the two women were detained as they had never been abroad earlier, but had possessed labour permits issued for the second time.

Minister for Labour and Employment Deepak Bohara had also accompanied the police team.

Khanal said the raids were carried out based on complaints about various fraud cases related to labour permit and fake visas.

The police team confiscated some computers and documents from the Tahachal-based DoFE Office for further investigation.
