Police up security in Kathmandu for May 14 polls

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Police Range has tightened security in the Kathmandu valley for the May 14 local level elections.

The security arrangements aim to avert any untoward incidents and make a fear-free environment during the polls, said Spokesperson for the police range Pradhumna Kumar Karki.

"A total of suspected 5,633 persons were briefly held for investigation so far," he added.

The arrangements have been made in coordination with Lalitpur and Bhaktapur police to carry out a security check round the clock in all transit points to the valley to curb supply of illegal arms, explosive, drugs and other materials, further stated Karki.
