PR system will break nation apart: NC leader

Kathmandu, October 15:

At a time when a large chunk of Nepali people including indigenous nationalities, Dalits and Madhesi people are fighting for the proportional representation (PR) electoral system, Chief Whip of NC Parliamentary Party Ananda Prasad Dhungana flayed it today claiming that would lead the nation towards disintegration and turn into formation of ethnic states.

“If we stick to fully proportional representation election system, the election to constituent assembly cannot be held even after a decade,” claimed Dhungana while addressing a face-to-face programme organised by Reporters’ Club here today.

Maoist central committee member Janardan Sharma strongly rejected the idea that full proportional representation election system will not do good.

“We don’t believe parliament can give any way out,” he said.

Leader of CPN (Unified) Ganesh Shah said both declaration of republic and full proportional representation electoral system was a must. “If the proposal fails nation would be plunged into deep trouble,” he said.
