Prachanda assures Ramhari’s kin of justice

Kathmandu, May 27:

The protest against Ramhari Shrestha’s murder by Maoist activists ended today after Maoist chairman Prachanda, the victim’s family and the struggle committee signed a seven-point agreement.

CPN-Maoist chairman Prachanda, Ramhari’s wife Ramila and Gyan Kumar Shrestha, the coordinator of the Civil Struggle Committee, signed an agreement this morning at a meeting held at Nayabazaar.

In the agreement, the CPN-Maoist have expressed commitment to initiate legal action against Kali Bahadur Kham (Bibidh), Govinda Batala (Jibit), Keshav Adhikari (Raghu) and Gangaram Thapa (Atom) on the basis of investigations, to pay reasonable compensation to the victim’s family and not to repeat such incident in the future while the Struggle Committee has agreed to call off protests.

Meanwhile today, the residents of Koteshwor took Ramhari’s body around the town before taking it to Pashupati Aryaghat for cremation. UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal also joined the funeral procession. At a press conference organised this evening the Struggle Committee said they would re-launch protests if the Maoists failed to abide by the agreement. They also informed that the Maoists have agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 2 million to the victim’s family.
