Prez stresses gender equality

Kathmandu, March 7

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished all women living in the country and abroad happiness, peace, and prosperity.

The president, in her message on the occasion of 107th International Women's Day, which will be observed tomorrow, said, "I am confident that this day will inspire all of us to make integrated efforts towards ensuring rights, equality, empowerment, and women's human rights as it is possible only through the implementation of our legal provisions, policies and programmes, and the commitments and declarations made."

This year’s theme for the Day is 'Women in the Changing World: Planet 50-50 by 2030' to highlight the achievements of women while calling for greater equality. It reflects on how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda, building momentum for effective implementation of new Sustainable Development Goals. It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

"The status of women is lower than men. Females are being left behind in all sectors, and their condition is pathetic," said President Bhandari.
