President to present govt policies and programmes today afternoon

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari is presenting the government policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2018/19 in a joint sitting of the Federal Parliament (House of Representatives and National Assembly) at 4:00 pm today.

The Cabinet meeting on Sunday night endorsed the proposal in this regard.

As per the constitution, the President may address a meeting of either House or a joint sitting of both Houses of the Federal Parliament, and summon the members for that purpose.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat's Assistant Spokesperson, Keshab Aryal, all preparations for the programme have been completed.

Development and prosperity of the nation -- forwarded by the government led by Nepal Communist Party, formed following the unification between the then CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre -- have been prioritised in the policies and programmes.

Employees have been deployed to welcome and manage individuals attending the programme. Also invited to the programme are the Vice President, top leaders of various political parties, high government officials, and chiefs of constitutional commissions, security agencies and Nepal-based diplomatic missions.

Following the joint meeting, separate meetings of the NA and HoR are scheduled to thank the President.
