Press foundation of republic, good governance: PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday stated that the press was the foundation of republic and good governance.

PM stated so while meeting representatives of the Press Councils from India, Bangladesh and Cyprus.

Lauding media's role in peace process and Constitution promulgation here, the PM said the new Constitution ensured freedom to press and publication.

With the help of information and technology in this 21st century, the PM added, the media could help the countries in South Asian region to come together with the world.

Ali Hansri of Cyprus Press Council, Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad of India and Justice Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed of Bangladesh had called on Dahal today.

Representatives of the Press Council Nepal and the Federation of Nepali Journalists were also present on the occasion.
