PM Oli praises Prithvi Narayan Shah

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Thursday said there was no possibility of the restoration of monarchy.
Addressing a programme organised on the occasion of the 297th Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day, PM Oli said, “It is sheer stupidity to dream of the return of monarchy.” He further viewed that if King Prithvi Narayan Shah had not led the unification campaign, it would not have been possible to see Nepal in its current form. He praised Prithvi Narayan Shah for his role in building a nation.
PM Oli asserted that the government formed for five years had a clear vision and added that people would soon feel the change with the institutionalisation of the achievements made so far. He said the country would move on the path towards prosperity as soon as the process of formulating necessary laws was completed.
On a different note, the PM claimed that no one would die of huger in the country. He said a new campaign was launched to ensure that no one stayed hungry and necessary materials were sent to the Tarai to protect the helpless people from cold.
Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari expressed the view that Shah’s views were still relevant. “His view of Nepal ‘as a yam between two stones’ is still relevant.”Chancellor of Nepal Academy Ganga Prasad Upreti expressed the view that today’s generation should not forget Prithvi Narayan Shah’s contribution to nation building.
