Probe into alleged media code violators

Kathmandu, January 14

Press Council Nepal has launched an investigation into a complaint regarding alleged violation of journalists’ code of conduct by a local journalist and a newspaper in Surkhet district.

Kopila Valley Service Society based in the district filed a complaint with the Press Council alleging that a journalist and the media outlet were disseminating false news in a premeditated manner, and publishing reports hurting the organisation’s dignity and service.

The Society has further accused journalists of using inappropriate pressure and called on the Council to probe into the facts and take action.

The Council has already directed the concerned to stick to accuracy and balance while disseminating news.

A three-member investigative committee headed by Council member Khil Bahadur Bhandari has been formed for necessary action in view of non-compliance to its instruction by the concerned media and continued dissemination of news on the organisation, said Council Chairman Borna Bahadur Karki.

The Council has called on the concerned to help the committee finding truth and to be alert while disseminating news on the related matter.
