Project to boost NHRC capacity launched
KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has started a project 'Strengthening the capacity of National Human Rights Commission' in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Bishal Khanal, national project director, said the main goal of the project is to strengthen the capacity of NHRC in promotion, monitoring, investigation, documentation and reporting of human rights violations.
Addressing a press conference, Khanal said that they are investigating the backlog cases of human resource and are disseminating human resource data and information through, reports, IEC material and media . "The project would monitor the human rights of civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights of women, children and other different minorities group," he added.
The project is also reviewing law and policies in line with international human resource standards, said Khanal, adding that they would also carry out human rights treaty monitoring-related work. The total budget earmarked for the project stands at US $ two million.
