Public Account Committee wants its Chair pronto

KATHMANDU: Members of the Public Account Committee (PAC) of the Legislature-Parliament are all set to draw the attention of the Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar towards the need of electing its Chairperson at the earliest.

A meeting of the Committee held today made this this decision.

The post is vacant after its Chairman Janardan Sharma resigned from the position in early August.

The regular activities of the Committee have been affected in the absence of its leader, some members lamented.

Keeping the position vacant for a long would not send a positive message to the public, the meeting concluded today.

Committee member Ramhari Khatiwada said they had earlier urged the Speaker for the creation of an atmosphere conducive for choosing a new chairman.

Besides, the meeting agreed to sort out the issues pending in the Committee immediately and direct the Investigation, Study and Monitoring Committee to carry out its activities effectively, Committee's seniormost member Sarvendra Nath Shukla said.

Likewise, the Arrears Settlement Sub-Panel of the Committee would consult with government bodies regarding their arrears and take initiative to have such arrears cleared.

Meanwhile, the Committee members have agreed to meet regularly.
