PM Dahal orders release of man held for sloganeering against him

KATHMANDU: Newly elected Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged the Nepal Police to release Shyam Khatri, who was arrested for chanting slogans against him yesterday.

The request was made by Dahal's son, Prakash, on his behalf to the IGP Upendra Kant Aryal via telephone.

"It is everyone’s right to protest peacefully and legally, one should not be arrested based on the very offence," Prakash said.

Khatri was arrested amid a protest organised by the All Nepal National Free Students Union-Revolutionary at the Maitighar Mandala shortly after Dahal was elected as the 39th PM of Nepal.

Police have informed that Khatri would be released today itself.
