Radar outage affects flights at TIA

KATHMANDU: All domestic and international flights have been delayed at the country’s sole international airport throughout the day on Thursday after technical problems shut down the radar system at Tribhuvan International Airport.

According to TIA’s spokesperson Prem Nath Thakur, flights were adversely affected due to the radar outage. "The radar system was shut down since Thursday morning,” he said.

Most of the flights – both domestic and international - were delayed while a few were also put on hold.

Air traffic controllers had faced a tough time to maintain distance while allowing flights for landing and take-off, the spokesperson added.

“Most of the flights missed their schedules.”

“A technical team has been struggling hard to fix the problem as soon as possible,” he said, adding that the system would be functional by this evening.
