Regulate INGOs, DNYF tells SWC

Kathmandu, June 30:

Democratic National Youth Federation (DNYF) Nepal today submitted a memorandum to Social Welfare Council demanding that International Non-governmental Organisations be regulated.

The nine-point demand of the DNYF includes effective implementation of agreements, directives and code of ethics made by the SWC in consultation with donor agencies and INGOs and a provision of public audit of their financial transactions. “INGOs should make public their transactions within a month,” the memorandum states.

Other demands include easy access of the public to the information regarding the pays and perks of the INGO staff, and regulation compelling them to take their programmes to the targeted groups rather than holding programmes in star hotels.

The federation has also demanded that the procedure to appoint employees should be made transparent as well as inclusive and Nepali degrees and people should be given priority while hiring staff.

The DNYF also warned of protest programmes if their demands were not met on time.
