Result-oriented research in agriculture stressed
Kathmandu, June 17:
Minister for Agriculture and Co-operatives (MoAC), Mahanta Thakur, today emphasised on result-oriented research in the field of agriculture.
While inaugurating a consultative meeting of senior scientists and professionals of agriculture and animal sciences organised by Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Thakur said: “It should be done with the coordination between different organisations so as to get better results. It helps avoiding duplication of research.”
He also said the ministry is all set to amend science and technology policy to facilitate researchers in an organised way.
Home Nath Bhattarai, Vice Chancellor of NAST, said: “NAST has formed 10 committees in
10 sectors to find out the issues in the respective fields and
to find out the placing of scientists as well as coordination between them.”
Dr KC Sharma, academician and coordinator of the meeting organising committee, said that the agriculture sector could not achieve more in research due to the loopholes in the policies.
Dal Ram Pradhan, joint secretary of MoAC, said: “The government sector, private sector, NAST and farmers groups should work together to implement the suggestions of this meeting.”
