Rights commission to blacklist defiant offices

Lalitpur, January 31:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is planning to blacklist the government offices, for disobeying and not implementing its recommendations and decisions.

Talking to Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), NHRC spokesperson Gauri Pradhan said preparations were on to blacklist those government offices, which have defied the commission’s recommendations despite repeated directions. “We will first give the defiant offices a deadline of 15 days to implement the recommendations. If they did not comply with the NHRC recommendations within the deadline, we would enlist their names on the blacklist and make public their names,” Pradhan said. Article 132 of the Interim Constitution grants rights to the NHRC to publicise the names of the officials, persons or bodies, which do not follow or implement the recommendations and directions of the constitutional body, as human right violators.

Pradhan also said the NHRC was intensifying efforts to press the government — specially the Prime Minister’s office and security bodies — to implement the rights body’s recommendations and decisions.
