Rights groups deplore
KATHMANDU: Various human rights organisations on Wednesday condemned the attack on Nepali Congress leaders in Narayanghadh on Tuesday. Joint Forum for Human Rights (JFHR) said the attack on former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CA member Gagan Thapa and irrigation minister Bal Krishna Khand had drawn its attention. Issuing a statement, JFHR appealed to the Maoists to conduct their protest programmes without violating others' human rights. Human Rights Peace Society (HURPES) maintained that it was an attack on the intellectual sector. The protest programme of the Maoists could affect the peace process and create political uncertainty, HURPES stated.
