Robbery suspect arrested from Jorpati

Kathmandu, June 7

An alleged robber was arrested after a shootout in Attarkhel, Jorpati, today.

Metropolitan Police Crime Division said police opened fire in self-defence as the notorious robber Chhiring Tamang alias ‘Kaka’ tried to attack the cops who were trying to nab him. He sustained bullet injuries below the knee, in left leg.

Chhiring aka ‘Kaka’ hails from Kavre and is figured in the ‘wanted list’ for his criminal activities. Earlier, MPCD had arrested four members of his gang. They include Nitesh Tamang of Ilam, Ajay Tamang of Rautahat, Rupesh Chaulagai of Kavre and Bhimraj Thing of Makawapur. Chhiring is undergoing treatment at Nepal Medical College, Attarkhel, and is out of danger.

MPCD said his gang was involved in a series of robberies in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.

They had allegedly decamped with Rs 80,000 from Jorpati-based Bineshwor Jewellery Shop belonging to Buddharam Sunar on May 18. According to MPCD, they were hatching a plot to rob a jewellery shop in Koteshwor. “We have foiled their robbery plan with the arrest of Chhiring and four others,” said MPCD In-charge SSP Sahakul Thapa.
