Rolpa man arrested for khukuri attack in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: A man from Rolpa has been arrested on charge of attacking another man with khukuri and inflicting injuries on him in Tilganga, KMC-9, police said.

The assaulter has been identified as 36-year-old Emendra Oli of Jugar-7 in Rolpa district, currently residing in Mulpani. The victim is Khem Chapagain of Ilam, currently residing in Tilganga.

Police suspected  that Oli suffers from psychiatric problem. Medical prescription and psychiatric drugs were found in his possession.

Oli allegedly attacked Chapagain after suffering from a panic attack near a guesthouse adjoining the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) building in Tilganga at around 6:30 pm yesterday, according DSP Nawaraj Karki at the Gaushala-based Metropolitan Police Circle. He took away a khukuri from the guesthouse kitchen and hit Chapagain with it.

Chapagain suffered cut injuries on the dorsal side of one of his palms.

Chapagain's wife, who saw her husband being attacked, threw a stone at Oli. The stone hit on the back of Oli's head and he is also injured, DSP Karki said.

Chapagain was taken to the Sinamangal-based Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Police said Oli would be handed over to his guardians as he suffers from mental disorder.
