RPP, RPP-N all set to announce unification

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) led by Lokendra Bahadur Chand and Kamal Thapa respectively on Monday announced that they would unify as a single party very soon.

Organising an event in the Capital today, the two chairpersons assured their cadres that the unification process was about to conclude within weeks.

Earlier last week, Chand and Thapa had agreed to make nationality and Hinduism a base for the merger.

On Sunday, the two parties had signed an eight-point agreement for the unification.

RPP was formed by leaders who were in favour of the Panchayat regime after the establishment of the multiparty democracy in 1990. Kamal Thapa had split the party and formed the RPP-N in 2005/06 owing to some differences over various agendas.

The two parties were discussing the merger for last few months.
