SC directs govt to study Rawal panel’s report

Kathmandu, May 31

The Supreme Court today directed the government to form a task force to study on the implementation of a report, prepared 12 years back, that recommended the government authorities to return public land from the grip of land mafias.

A division bench of Justices Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Mohan Prakash Sitaula told the government authorities to form a task force and submit its report, after studying the implementation of the Ram Prasad Rawal commission report, within three months.

“Produce the specific action plan within the period,” the apex court told the authorities.

The Rawal Commission had recommended the government to get back 1,850 ropanis of land from land mafias, who have already registered the public and guthi land on their names.

Demanding the apex court intervention to implement the report, a Public Interest Litigation was filed by a group of advocates representing the Pro-Public six years back. The petitioners have accused the government of taking no action to implement the report due to the pressure of land mafia.
