SC fiat on civil servants’ right to promotion

Kathmandu, December 2:

The Supreme Court today directed the government to respect the rights of the civil servants to seek promotion through competition.

A division bench of Justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Kalyan Shrestha issued the verdict responding to a writ petition filed by engineers of Small Town Drinking Water and Cleaning Project.

The bench told the government authorities -- Ministry of General Administration, Secretariat Promotion Committee, Ministry of Physical Planning and Works and Public Service Commission — to respect the rights of the civil servants to seek promotion.

The Ministry of General Administration had turned down the wish of 10

engineers, including Deewakar Dhakalto, to seek promotion through free competition.
