SC notices to govt

Kathmandu, October 30:

The Supreme Court today issued show cause notices to the government authorities on why the government has not yet implemented the report of the report of the UN Office of the High Commissioners for Human Rights-2006.

A single bench of Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhi issued the order to the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Ministry of Defence, the Headquarters of Nepali Army and the Chief of Army Staffs and the Bhairav Nath Battalion to clarify the issue within 15 days.

The bench also placed the writ in the priority list considering its sensitive nature. The petition was filed yesterday seeking an order to the government authorities to set up a high-level commission to implement the report.

Advocate Jitman Basnet had filed the petition seeking the SC order to implement the report that had asked the government to find out the missing people and take action against the government and army officials involved in disappearing people from the Bhairav Nath Battalion.
