SC’s order flouted by house destroyer

KATHMANDU: Amir Kumar Shrestha, a resident of Thankot and Rajan Adhikari, who hails from Mahendra Nagar VDC, Sunsari have allegedly destroyed house of Rajendra Shrestha,Kathmandu Metropolitan-12, against the Supreme Court’s stay order, by using a bull dozer and a gang of 35 persons.

Shrestha claimed that his house was demolished and the perpetrators looted cash and goods including ornaments worth Rs 770,000 from him and Rs 200,000 from his tenants on September 20.

The house owner Shrestha and defendant Amir Kumar Shrestha and Guthi Sansthan were in a legal battle over the ownership of the property for a long time.

The Supreme Court had issued a stay order on May 26 directing the authorities and the defendants not to demolish the house until a further decision was made available.

The house owner Shrestha informed The Himalayan Times that he had registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati but he accused the police of turning deaf ears to his plea.

However, DSP Sukdev Neupane at the circle claimed that Amir Shrestha and Rajan Adhikari were being prosecuted under the Public Offense Act and the police have been searching 35 others involved in the demolition.
