HELP University in Malaysia and Lions Club International District 325B1 of Nepal recently launched HELP University’s Nepal earthquake recovery scholarship with the aim of helping students affected by recent earthquakes.

HELP University collaborated with Lions Club International District 325B1 in Nepal to disburse part of the scholarships and bursaries amounting to US $ 500,000.

A press statement issued here today by HELP University said scholarships amounting to US $ 1 million will be

open to all Nepali students, who want to pursue specific courses at HELP University, HELP College of Arts and Technology and HELP Academy.

Among the programs covered by the scholarships and bursaries are business, information technology, hospitality management, tourism management, psychology and business administration. It said the scholarships and bursaries are for the 2015 and 2016 academic intakes.

The statement said that the aim of the scholarships and bursaries is to help Nepali students obtain a qualification and therefore contribute to the rehabilitation, reconstruction and development of their community and the nation.

According to the statement, the letter from HELP University pledging US $ 1 million worth of scholarships was handed over to Ambassador of Nepal to Malaysia Dr Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat earlier this year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The statement further said that HELP University has been welcoming and nurturing many Nepali students in Kuala Lumpur. Similarly, two Nepali students — Sauharda Thapa and Sushant Vaidik — obtained First Class Honours in their fields of study in the university.

“Therefore, the aim of this scholarship fund is to recognise and reward Nepali students for their outstanding leadership and academic achievements. These scholarships and bursaries are open to high performing, financially-disadvantaged students from rural regions adversely affected by the earthquake,” reads the statement. Nepali students can apply through the Selection committee of the Scholarship (Lions Club International, District 325B1 Nepal), which will shortlist and present applicants to HELP through HELP’s authorised agent.
