Second polio eradication drive

Kathmandu, February 3:

The Child Health Division (CHD) under the Ministry of Health and Population is conducting the second phase of Sub-Intensified National Immunisation Days (S-NIDs) for polio eradication on Tuesday and Wednesday (February 7-8) in nine districts.

The Oral Polio Vaccines (OPVs) were administered to the children under five years of age in 15 high-risk districts as part of the first phase of S-NIDs on January 21 and 22.

Dr Sun Lal Thapa, programme manager, Integrated Management on Childhood Illness (IMCI), said the CHD is starting the second phase of the S-NIDs in six districts in the terai, which are at high risk, and all three districts in the valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur), which are prone to polio virus due to internal migration.
