Separate local body needed for teachers, says Minister Poudel

Kathmandu, April 17

Minister for Education Dhaniram Poudel has stressed the need to develop a separate body for the management of teachers at the local level as per the new federal set-up.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Teachers’ Management in the local level’ that was jointly organised by the Education Ministry and the Nepal Teachers’ Federation here today, Education Minister Poudel spoke of the need to  develop a separate body to manage teachers at the local level, adding that such a body was essential like in other sectors.

He further argued that such problems could be resolved even by making the Teachers’ Service Commission a constitutional body.

Minister Poudel further said that the issues of teachers’ management at the local level will be addressed soon after the local polls.

The minister added that teachers should be more responsible in the federal set-up after the development of local level government.

Secretary at the Ministry Hari Lamsal, educationalists Bidya Nath Koirala and Man Prasad Wagle also supported the view that the education sector could be improved by making teachers more responsible.
