Serial robbery suspect held from Dakshin Dhoka

KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested a youth, whom they said was involved in over a dozen property crime incidents over the span of past three years.

Tika Bahadur Thapa Magar aka Sagar (29), a permanent resident of Dorambha-8 of Ramechhap district, currently residing in Dakshin Dhoka, Kageshwori Manahara-9 of the Capital was arrested by a team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division yesterday.

Magar was arrested for robbing a woman of Rs 600,000 cash in Kaushaltar of Bhaktapur district on January 6 and later it was found that he was a professional robber involved in various cases, the MCD said in a statement today.

Earlier, on January 6, Mandira Adhikari was robbed of the cash while she was heading towards Gaththaghar after withdrawing the cash from Kaushaltar-based NIC Asia Bank, police said.

During the investigation, police had raided Magar's room to find Rs 300,000 cash, the victim's driving licence, a citizenship certificate, a handbag among other things in his possession.

The investigation later found that he was involved in a number of robbery and theft cases in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Kavre districts for more than 10 years.

He had landed in police custody at least five times in connection to various criminal cases over past 10 years.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been sent to the Thimi-based Metropolitan Police Circle for further investigation and action.
