KATHMANDU: Ministry of Education (MoE) is yet to decide on the location for the proposed Far-Western university while that for three other universities has already been selected. Dilli Ram Rimal, deputy secretary, MoE, said though locations for Mid western University, Agriculture and Forest University and Open University had been set, far-western university was yet to get one.
“Owing to series of disputes among people in the region as to where the institution is to be established, it’s been tough to select an appropriate location,” Rimal said, “Now it’s the cabinet or the parliament to do the job.”
He said a bill had been forwarded to the law ministry for consideration following its approval from the finance ministry.
Proposed location for the three universities are Surkhet, Chitwan and Kathmandu.
The decision to locate the other one in Nepalgunj infuriated Banke locals yesterday who protested demanding its relocation.
The government had announced to establish four new universities in its budget and programmes for the current fiscal.
