Smuggled goods worth over Rs 700,000 seized in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have confiscated imported clothes being smuggled to Kathmandu from Butwal in a huge quantity in Kathmandu today.

Metropolitan Police Range, Nagdhunga seized the clothes costing over Rs 700,000 being ferried to Kathmandu without paying the due customs duty in a bus (Lu 2 Kha 2011).

Chief at Metropolitan Police Circle, Thankot, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Bikram Thapa said that the clothes were left unattended in the bus. The clothes comprised 355 sets of kurta suruwal, 115 pieces of shawls, 560 pieces of kurti tops, among others.

The market price of the clothes was evaluated at Rs 729,000. The seized goods have been sent to the Inland Revenue Department for further investigation, according to police.
