Social activists have stressed on the need to end social ill-practices as child marriage and chhaupadi customs at a programme in Kathmandu, on Tuesday.

At a programme organized by Chhetri National Federation in the capital today, political analyst Dr Surendra KC said massive public awareness is required to end child marriage in Karnali region.

"Chhaupadi system has put the women at receiving end. Collective social campaign can help end such evils," he argued.

Similarly, historian Dr Ramesh Dhungel said time has come to protect Masto culture of then Khas state of Karnali.

"The Khas kings have important role to protect Khas civilization," he reminded, suggesting that a research centre could be established at Hatsinja of Jumla.
