SP quits for not being promoted

Kathmandu, February 10

Superintendent of Police Narendra Prasad Upreti at Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Teku, tendered his resignation today a day after Nepal Police headquarters under the Ministry of Home Affairs promoted 14 SPs, excluding him, to senior superintendent of police.

Among those promoted, three are junior to SP Upreti. Upreti said he tendered his resignation on moral grounds. He said, “I don’t have any complaints. I have faithfully served the police department for 24 years and now I want some time for myself.”

SSP Uttam Raj Subedi, also the Spokesperson for Nepal Police, said, “The promotion committee makes minute assessment of officials’ performance before recommending them for promotion. So if he has tendered his resignation because he was not promoted, there’s nothing we can do about it. We will accept his resignation.”
